About Sweatcoin

Moving and getting money for it? This is exactly what the Sweatcoin fitness app promises: the app pays you for every step you take. Does that really work? And is it worth sweating with Sweatcoin at all? We took a look at the whole thing

Sweatcoin has become a real hit in a short time. In Germany, after its launch, the app was even more popular than the ubiquitous messenger service WhatsApp. Of course, this is not entirely surprising: after all, Sweatcoin promises that you will get money for an activity that many are already doing: running. However, there are some catches .

Sweatcoin experiences: how the fitness app works
Basically, Sweatcoin works quite simply: thanks to motion sensors and GPS tracking, the app measures every step you take and pays you for every 1000 steps you take. You don't get any real money, but the artificial currency Sweatcoin.

The following rate applies: 1000 steps = 0.95 Sweatcoin.
Sweatcoins only measures outdoor steps - so you actually have to get some fresh air and take a lap in the park. Not a bad idea, actually, but capturing the steps doesn't work very well. The algorithm doesn't measure every step you've taken, it only measures around 70%. In addition, steps that are too slow are not counted either. So walkers get away with nothing.

In our opinion, Sweatcoin misses the actual goal of getting those who don't like sports off the sofa. If you have been looking for a motivation to defeat your inner weaker self as a fitness beginner, you will probably not find it with Sweatcoin.
